On Thanksgiving Day in the
USA,
we give thanks for our blessings throughout the entire year. It’s
a day we set aside just to be grateful for all the goodness in our
lives. It’s important to be grateful, not just for the basic
things in our lives, like health, family and job, but also for the
more specific, special moments, like a good talk with a dear friend,
a new inspiring insight about ourselves or a refreshing walk on a
beautiful day.
Gratitude
for Our Challenges
Being thankful for what we’ve already received is wonderful, but
often we forget to also be grateful for our challenges. Our
challenges are the learning tools that help us grow into bigger,
better human beings. It’s often through overcoming those
challenges that we learn and grow and become more fully our true selves. If we had no challenges, we may never develop the skills and
talents we need to fulfill our purposes on the earth.
Think back in your life of a challenge you overcame and ask
yourself, “How did I learn and grow from that challenge? How am I
different today than I would have been if I had never experienced
it?” Maybe you experienced a death or a loss recently and because
of that loss you had to do some inner healing, but your inner
healing brought into your life wonderful new friends and experiences
that you wouldn’t have enjoyed otherwise.
Or maybe you were abused as a child and you had to go to therapy to
overcome the abuse, but as a result you were then able to help other
children overcome the abuse in their lives. Or maybe you had a
business that failed and as a result of that experience you found a
new kind of work that you love even more. There are many ways that
challenges can help you become a healthier, happier human being.
So why not be grateful for your challenges this year? Be grateful
that the Universe is providing you another opportunity to use your
natural talents and abilities to overcome the difficulties in your
life. Why not approach your challenges with a sense of wonder,
asking “What is the good that will come into my life as a result
of this challenge?”
Gratitude
for the Resolution to Our Challenges
And while you’re being grateful, it’s always good to also be
grateful in advance for the resolution of that challenge. You could
say “Thank you, God, for helping me overcome this challenge in my
life and thank you for helping me find solutions that are better
than I could ever imagine myself!”
When you are grateful for your blessings in advance, because you
know the Universe is already working in your life, you simply speed
up the process of finding resolution. Then it’s fun to watch how
the resolution to your challenge appears in your life. Certainly you
have to keep working to take any action you know towards finding
resolution, but it’s very fun to watch how the Universe
contributes to that process.
So in this year of bigger challenges, let’s give thanks for our
challenges and give thanks in advance for the resolution to those
challenges. Remember that the Universe is so much bigger and smarter
than any of us could ever be on our own. It has new, exciting
possibilities that will totally surprise us and fill our lives with
joy and wonder if we simply open our hearts to that possibility.
