What
is Light-Heartedness?
Light-Heartedness
is a state of mind where you feel love, joy, peace and laughter as
the norm in your everyday life. It doesn’t mean you don’t have
challenges. Everyone has challenges in life! Living light-heartedly
just means that, no matter what happens, you always know how to
bring yourself back to feeling love, joy, peace and laughter.
What
is Emotional Healing?
Emotional Healing is a natural healing process for anxiety, depression, abuse issues or poor self
esteem that anyone can learn. It involves
learning to identify, express and release your feelings, so that you
naturally come back to love and peace inside yourself. It usually begins
with getting in touch with tears or anger that you’ve been holding
back and often it ends with laughing and having fun.
Consistent
Emotional Healing
Naturally Leads to Light-Heartedness!
What
I’ve learned though years of doing psychotherapy is that
consistent emotional healing leads to natural light-heartedness.
You may wonder, if that’s true, why we haven’t discovered
emotional healing and put it into practice years ago.
There are many reasons. First of all, most of were
programmed not to talk about our feelings or needs as a young child,
so we have a tremendous fear of admitting we have feelings and
talking about them openly. Admitting our feelings often makes us
feel vulnerable and scared. If we were hurt, abandoned or abused as
a child, we will do anything we can to avoid feeling vulnerable and
scared again!
Secondly, psychology is still a new science. Freud, himself, only
lived and worked a hundred years ago. It’s only in the last 20-30
years that psychology has begun to realize the importance of
emotions. Since most psychologists and psychotherapists are educated, intellectual
people who may not have experienced consistent emotional healing
themselves, many of them still don’t understand the long-term
benefits
it brings.
Emotional Healing
is a Totally Natural
Healing Process!
When you do emotional healing, you learn to live
in the present moment. You learn to stay present in your body and
keep an on-going awareness of your feelings. Most of you have stored
up feelings for many years, sometimes even for a lifetime! When you
first start to pay attention to your body and get in touch with your
feelings, you will often have a back-log of tears and anger that
come pouring out.
It’s perfectly normal to have a backlog of unresolved pain when
you first learn how to express your feelings, but often people
misunderstand and feel afraid that the feelings will last forever.
Sometimes it’s so scary that they shut their feelings off again
because it’s too overwhelming to stay in touch.
The good news is that when you actually learn how to identify,
express and release your feelings, you’ll find that it’s a
totally natural healing process. You may have to do it over and over
again at the start, but once you learn the emotional healing skills,
you’ll simply know what to do to bring yourself back to a feeling
of love and peace.
The
Pitfalls
of Doing Emotional Healing
Alone:
There are some pitfalls you could encounter with trying to do
emotional healing by yourself. Two of the big pitfalls you may get
stuck in are blame and guilt. As children, many of you learned to
believe that if something hurts or something goes wrong, someone is
at fault. Either you did something wrong and you feel bad and guilty
for it, or someone else did something wrong and they should be
blamed and punished.
In emotional healing you learn to express and release your feelings
without blame and guilt. You come to understand that the people who
hurt you were probably hurting too. You can be hurt or angry or sad
and express it as long as you need to, but in the end, when you’ve
released the feelings that need to be released, you forgive those
people who hurt you in the past, learn from your mistakes, and work
on making your life better.
Emotional healing is not about mucking around in the pain for 10 or
20 years! You simply get in touch with what’s really going on
inside of you and learn to express and release your feelings about
it. When you have released the feelings and learned the life
lessons, you simply move forward to make your life better in the
future.
Emotional
Healing Offers Many Long-Term Benefits
I
started writing about light-heartedness a few years ago, because I
don’t think that people realize the many long-term benefits of
Emotional Healing. We hear the benefits of meditation, or yoga or
exercise, but no-one talks about the long-term benefits of Emotional
Healing.
To
me, it’s very important that we, as a culture, start to own our
emotions and learn to express them in healthy ways. So many
personal, cultural and world issues would change if we were able to
do that! We’d have so much less crime, we’d have more interest
in working together and helping each other and we’d definitely
stop going to war and killing people!
